My doctor has just referred me for a colonoscopy as my IBS symptoms have gotten worse in recent months. Though while I think it's stress related my doctor wants to rule out other things especially Crohns as my mum and brother are sufferers. I'm terrified of having one as I know I'm going to have to take drugs to completely clear out my system and having diarrhea always fills me with utter dread and my anxiety goes sky high!
I've had two colonoscopies. For me, it was easier the second time when the prep was divided into half the night before and half the morning of the procedure, rather than doing the entire thing the night before.
Here's what I've learned that may be helpful:
-Eat as lightly as you can the day or two before you start the prep. Less in means less coming out.
-Have moist wipes on hand. You may get too sore for TP to be comfortable after a while.
-If you do get sore from repeated bowel movements, either Neosporin or Preparation H can help relieve the discomfort.
-Wearing a dress or nightgown with no underwear makes frequent trips to the bathroom easier and quicker than wearing pants. Makes a big difference when the urgency to go is strong.
-The nurses in this division of the hospital were the kindest, most friendly care givers. It really made the process less stressful.
Best wishes!
Hang in there Ali! The prep is difficult but you can do it. Ruling out possible diagnoses was worth the prep for me.
Yes getting ready to have another done uggh!
I always say WHY canβt they come up with a easier way to clean out. I get so sick when I drink that stuff. I have IBS and Crohns
I can sure understand that! I dread having colonoscopies π€€
