I know personally I retain a lot of fluid during my flare ups. But I've gained and I really don't eat much when I do. I've gain up to 20lbs being sick and all I can do is sleep through it.
OMG! I just read a few comments about the weight gain issue.. I am going crazy about it!! Living with IBS is awful!! And I don't have my gall bladder. Flare ups for me can last from a day to a week.. I'm having one NOW! ! UGH! !! Started violently on Thursday. . My daughter took me out to eat and before I could get my front door unlocked the attack was on to be polite. I take bentyl, phenegran, and Imodium daily.. During the flare ups I am so weak I can barely get out of bed . I have fibromyalgia also. But bloating, cramping & nausea are awful. I have regular meds to take so if I can I try peanut butter and crackers. Sometimes 4 days without eating regular good yet I gain.. It's so disheartening. . Thank yal for sharing, and I'm thankful for this site.
I had a really bad flare up about 3 months ago and put on 20 of the 30 that I had just lost! I was devastated! But my ibsd is in remission now thanks to Lotrenex and a great All natural product called ibs solution! I have my life back again and I'm able to exercise and I'm losing weight again! I really suggest y'all try this product. Go to ibsformula.com and check it out! It has changed my life! Not going to lie though I still have a lot of gas but it's better than having diarrhea! God bless you all!
I lost weight at first because I refused to eat, that was 5 years ago. Now I have gained some of it back. I have IBS mixed, so sometimes diarrhea and sometimes constipation. It has improved with Align probiotic though. But lots of gas, bloating and nausea during flare ups. And giving up caffeinated beverages helped with diarrhea a lot.
YES! How I gain weight while eating so little and diarrhea several times a day is crazy. XIFAXAN got rid of diarrhea but cramps and gas are awgul. So I nibble instead of eating full meals.
KKelley, yes, you aren’t alone ! When you experience flares, you are less active, eat (if you can) differently, and even while you’re feeling better, it can cause weight gain ! When I’m feeling better, I tend to eat more, I’m hungrier, crave a lot of different foods and hence, gain weight !
