Hey Erin. I am so sorry that you're symptoms are so out of whack!! And it just SUCKS when your GP is useless as you feel so powerless as to what to do. I have been seeing a guy called Steve Joe down in Hamilton. Before Steve I had seen 2 gastroenterologists - one in Hamilton and one in Auckland (don't know if you've heard of Alan Fraser) and both didn't really get me anywhere, just put me on nortriptyline to change the pain response but that was basically it. So I've sorta done the conventional medicine path RE ibs. Steve Joe is a GP and combines this with a holistic approach looking at nutrition, and other lifestyle stresses that you may not be aware of i.e. the team tries to look at the root cause of the issue rather than cover it up with pain relief. The approach is semi-alternative - it uses applied kinesiology methods - but they have an 80-85% success rates with all of their clients. I've been seeing Steve since July last year. My ibs symptoms cleared up in 3 months and have pretty much stayed away since then. I also have had bouts of chronic fatigue symptoms and although it's taken a while to get to the bottom of what's causing it we are getting there and I feel SO much better than I used to. It is expensive but it's been so worth it, as they care about you and really want you to get better. The website is http://drstevejoe.co.nz/. It's got heaps of info on it. Let me know how you get on!

Hey Erin, have you tried melatonin to keep your sleep cycles on track? I have also used the meditation app called headspace really helpful for stress. You can download headspace on your phone/tablet/ computer :)
