Doesn’t anyone else with IBS deal with mucus coming from the rectum? I don’t know what to do. Seems my doctor doesn’t either. Help!

I use Imodium for multiple symptoms. I've gotten to where I take it before a meal because if I eat and then get gas, I'm done for. Once I get gas I know diarrhea is next. Just in the past week I ruined 2 pair of pants because I didn't get to the bathroom fast enough. Just glad I was home. It doesn't seen to matter what I eat. Anything can set it off.

My doctor says there is no way to stop it.

I can relate. Doesn’t matter what I eat. And doesn’t happen right away. Happens the next day!

I have had three acupuncture treatments in the past 2 1/2 weeks, and at the same time started taking the herb berberine. I also cut out white starchy foods (all pototoes, rice, corn products) at the advice of the acupuncturist.

Since then, my diarrhea has ceased, and it's been days since I had a bowel movement that was entirely mucus. The prescription I got from the gastroenterolist did nothing for me. His two bits of helpful advice were to try the fodmap diet and to take Imodium instead of Pepto-Bismal.

So it may depend on your symptoms and diagnosis whether it's treatable, but for me, it has been treatable.
