SIBO - Small Intestine Bacteria Overgrowth
A myIBSteam Member asked a question 💭

Has anyone else been diagnosed with SIBO? I've rarely seen it mention when researching IBS, but the new doctor I went to yesterday suggested a modified fodmap diet that eliminates additional foods to address it. You can get tested for SIBO but I decided to just start treatment right away without confirmation of the test, because I am so desperate to feel better.

I started acupuncture treatments a month ago and begin to feel improvement *immediately.* That doctor also put me on the herb berberine, though I could have taken a prescription med called rifaximin instead.
I went from every bowel movement being diarrhea (often 6 to 8 times a day.) to that no longer being a symptom at all.
I found I still need to be very careful about what I eat, and the doctor said that will be the case for a few more months.
I am not the sort of person who goes to "alternative" treatments first, but I have found acupuncture effective medicine for other ailments over the years, and was not getting effective treatments or advice from the gastroenterologist.

I have SIBO also. So far my dr. has done blood tests and stool tests and now I have to wait 14 days since the last time I had diarrhea to take a breath test. I am on medication to stop constipation and medicine to stop diarrhea. What a mess. What kind of treatment are you on?

@A myIBSteam Member, The gastroenterologist who did my colonoscopy, put me on a medication that did *nothing* to help my symptoms in 4 weeks of taking it. So, I went to a naturopathic doctor yesterday for acupuncture. I feel worlds better today, and I believe it's from the acupuncture. He also prescribed a herb, Berberine complex, and a modified fodmap diet specifically for SIBO. It's only been 26 hours, but I feel hopeful for the first time in a while.

I think I heard somewhere that you should not use probiotics when you have SIBO but I am not 100% sure.A pharmacist would be able to give you the correct answer ! ❤️
