Should I Get A Endoscopy/colonoscopy?

A myIBSteam Member asked a question 💭

Hello, I have been diagnosed with IBS-C and acid reflux. I have had an abdominal myo 7/14/20 to remove fibroids and I was in the hospital for one night. The day before I had to do a liquid diet starting at noon and I had to drink 2 Magnesium Citrates. All went well with my surgery. Since then I've been dealing with heartburn and acid reflux. I doubt that it's surgery related. Anyway I didn't poop until a few days after surgery(Surgery was on a Tuesday and I pooped that Saturday) I swear it… read more

Members strongly encouraged someone considering whether to get an endoscopy and colonoscopy, with several sharing their own experiences of receiving the procedures and finding valuable answers, including one member who discovered a polyp that required removal and another who learned they had excess stomach bacteria. Many members described dealing with similar symptoms like chest pain from acid reflux that mimicked heart attack sensations, sharing that medications like Pantoprazole, pink liquid antacids from the ER, and IB Gard have helped manage their symptoms with varying degrees of success. A recurring theme was the importance of being proactive about testing to reduce anxiety and ensure proper treatment, with advice to discuss the pros and cons with family and doctors, request biopsies during procedures for more thorough findings, and advocate for answers when symptoms persist.

I have similar issues with chest pain and adrenaline surges when I eat. Still all related to my IBS? Unknown. I did have an endoscopy and found I have excess bacteria in my stomach. My gastroenterologist hesitates to prescribe antibiotics that may or may not help… Also had heart checked out earlier and that’s okay.

I would ask for an endoscopy and a colonoscopy just to find out what all is going on. And make sure they take a biopsy to get better findings! Hugs
