I’m wondering if others with IBS take an antidepressant and if it helps. My doctor prescribed trintellix and I’m trying to get used to it. I have anxiety with my IBS. Not sure which comes first, IBS or anxiety!
I take antidepressants. I took myself off of them in 2010. After they got out of my system I got very sick. I kept having all kind of test and finally I was sent to a gastroenterologist. To make a long story short she diagnosed me with IBS. I told her I took my self off of antidepressants then I got sick. She told me that's why I developed IBS and that your gut has more serotonin than your brain. Google it (serotonin and the gut). Not everyone that has IBS has to take antidepressants. Talk to your doctor about it. Hope I helped you some. God bless you. ❤️🙏
Yes I take antidepressants. I was on them before I was diagnosed with IBS. IN 2010 I decided to take myself off them. When the antidepressants got out of my system I fell apart. I started having nausea, chills, constipation, couldn't eat. After test and finding a gastroenterologist I was diagnosed with IBS-C. My gastroenterologist told me when I took myself off the antidepressants was the reason IBS began to show it's ugly head. So I went back on antidepressants it helped. I still take them. I am 77. I have been doing well for awhile. Right now I am having some problems. For awhile I have got to where I don't want to do anything. I could sit In my chair all day and not move except to go to the bathroom. I have ever been like this. I have always been active with a lot of energy. I don't know if my meds have stopped working
I need to go to the Dr. I take flax seed meal for my constipation. It is the only thing that has helped me with bathroom issues. I hope you are doing better. God bless you. ❤️🙏
I have both IBS and depression they always go together they're never separate not for me.
Thank you so much for your response. IBS and anxiety… kind of a chicken and the eggs thing, I’m not sure which comes first! I did a teleheath thing with a doctor yesterday about my antidepressant medication and if it’s the right one for me. My health insurance offered it so I decided to try it. It was pretty much about medications. Sometimes it’s difficult to find the right med that will do the trick. I hope you can find one that helps too. I’m 67 and the IBS//anxiety are getting in the way of my enjoying my retirement. I’m working to find something that will help. Sounds like maybe you should contact your doctor too.
