What can I eat and drink when on FODMAP diet?

What can I eat and drink when on FODMAP diet?

I had my appointment this morning with a dietician for the FODMAP diet. He told me I am not allowed to drink squash because of the sweetners in it. The one I use has the following ingredients:

Water, Fruit Juice from Concentrate (10%) (Apple 9%, Blackcurrant 1%), Acid (Citric Acid), Acidity Regulator (Sodium Citrate), Flavourings, Colour (Anthocyanins), Preservatives (Potassium Sorbate, Sodium Metabisulphite (Sulphites)), Sweeteners (Aspartame, Sodium Saccharin)

Do you find IBS changing over time?

Do you find IBS changing over time?

In the past I typically would have C for a bit and then have an attack of D that would last a few horrible hours with pain, chills, and occasionally nausea. But then it would mostly be over and able to continue with life until the next one. Lately the attacks are not so intense, just feel not right and not want to do anything. Almost like there is stuff in me I have to get out, but now it takes days instead of hours. I don’t feel as bad, but it is still annoying because I just… read more

What to do next??

What to do next??

I am at a bit of a loss here. I have been on this "investigation" of why my stomach sucks for the last 2 years but have suffered silently for the last 15 years.

I have had an endoscopy done a year and a half ago. This revealed a hernia in my stomach. There was not much mentioned to me about this, if it was of any cause for concern or how to manage any symptoms that I am having that could be related to it.

Three months ago, after bringing back to the table that I am still having stomach issues… read more

Can anybody suggest a treatment for occasional extreme bloating?

Can anybody suggest a treatment for occasional extreme bloating?

From time to time my IBS flares up and when it's at it's worst I suffer extreme bloating. Usually it occurs following eating food (even small snacks). Wind appears to get trapped, made worse by the other effects of suffering IBS ( esp constipation).
At its worst its so bad that if I were a woman I would swear I was pregnant!
I've tried using simethicone but it has little or no effect. I try to eat slowly so as not to take in too much air, but… read more

Probiotics

Probiotics

Hello. I have ibs-d and aside from bentyl I don't really take anything aside from occasional Imodium. My doctor recommended probiotics and I was wondering if anyone had had any relief with them. If so, what kind? Thanks!

Peppermint oil capsules

Peppermint oil capsules

After i had my colonoscopy and other tests. The specialist reccomended that i should try peppermint tea to help with my IBS. Today i found some peppermint oil capsules in poundland. Has anyone tried these for IBS? Do they work? What medications should they not be taken with? I read that they are also good for colds so i have taken one as i am just starting to come down with a cold and hoping it will help nip it in the bud.

First thing in the morning if I don't take immodium at night I can go to the loo up to 7 times in the first hour. My doctor reckons this part of the IBS but when your staying at someone's house with only one bathroom it gets a bit embarrassing also we travel a lot and that is the same when your back and for the washroom. Has anyone else experienced this and can they tell me how to… read more

Is it IBS?

Is it IBS?

2 years ago I had tests originally for IBD and when all of those tests were negative, the conclusion was IBS. I have struggled recently with accepting this as a diagnosis because I feel amazing most of the time but when I have a flare it can knock me off my feet and I struggle then mentally with worrying about whether or not I am feeling better. I do not take regular medication for my IBS-d, as my doctor has said if it's bad use Imodium and for the bloating peppermint tablets. Has anyone else had quite… read more
