A myIBSteam Member asked a question 💭

Has anyone done bowel retraining for loss of bowel control or constipation? If so, what are some tricks you recommend?

I have mainly IBS-D. I don't eat when I know I have to go somewhere same day like thurs kid to dr 10:20 I will not eat before that grocery shopping mall Walmart ect..... now I also wear a pad to the back of me just in case URGENT flare and can't make it to restroom when out always take couple Imodium day of and night before. Also bentyl and gas x pill. Have extra pads with flushable wipes with me in purse at all times. Have had syndrome since 1990. I birthed 5 kids (in my opinion loosened me up back there) but I'm 49 now and just started a few accidents this last year and a half. Bought depends but haven't tried wear one yet. So that's my routine. Sometimes I can have urgency with no diarreha and can't hold it either this last year. Never go into restaurants or eat at people's houses. Sucks but ya gotta do what ya gotta do I guess

I have the "Medtronic Interstim implant" and it has given back my life..there is a facebook group for it, and you can find information about it by searching on the internet. If you have IBS/D, it is worth checking for information. Look up "interstim for bowel control".

I use the always discrete pull ups and i always carry wipes and a extra pull up as well, I guess I've gotten used to wearing pull ups but I'm tired of buying them lol The whole accident thing started last year, never thought my IBS would get a lot more aggressive. I haven't had babies yet but, from what I was told by my G.I specialist, I also have a nerve disorder in my intestines so that could be the reason why I'm experiencing accidents. Hopefully bowel training will help? not sure at this point with the whole never thing but it's worth a shot I guess. I'm afraid as well to eat out or going over to people's places. Some people understand my condition but I just get scared if they say they understand but they don't. I sometimes feel like a pain in the butt (no pun intended lol)

I also have the Interstim implant, and it has allowed me to leave my house. I had to go on medical disability due to IBS/D. I was a HS Choral Director, and there was a bathroom right beside my room, but I could not make it to the bathroom. I loved the job, but teaching and IBS/D just don't work well together. The implant has given me back my life. I've had it for over 10 years thanks to a fantastic GI Doctor.
