Members shared what they eat after a flare, with bananas emerging as the most popular choice alongside other gentle options like white rice, soup broth, plain baked potatoes, toast, applesauce, and oatmeal, while many avoid dairy entirely during recovery. Several members emphasized the importance of keeping a food diary to identify triggers, though many expressed frustration that the same foods can be safe one day and cause a flare the next, with stress, hormones, and seemingly random factors playing unpredictable roles. A recurring theme was the fear of eating after a flare, the exhausting trial-and-error nature of managing IBS, and the comfort of knowing others in the community truly understand the pain and unpredictability of living with this condition.

I’m experiencing a flare up now. I’ve been getting chicken soup from Chick-fil-A. I’ve been taking Bentyl too. I know the more bland your food is the better and to try to stay away from dairy as well. The BRAT diet helps some too bananas, rice, applesauce and toast. And sometimes nothing works. I do understand not knowing what’s going to make it worse or better. That’s just part of IBS unfortunately.

Stress causes my flares. Have had IBSD for several years, brain fog as to exactly when. If really bad I take 3 Immodium and 1 Hyoscyamine after every BM. Fennel, white oolong and peppermint tea helps. Nothing fried! No raw veg. Rice and baked white chicken is good. No dairy at all. Lactose free yoghurt. Pretzels.

Hi all, have you tried using a product called IBGard? Not sure if we are supposed to list products or not. Another great product is Walmart's Equate "gas relief & prevention" .
