Does Anyone Have A Chronic Cough With Reflux Or IBS Flair Ups? Especially If You Have Allergies Or Asthma?
A myIBSteam Member asked a question 💭

I cough from spring to fall with right side pain with IBS flair ups all the time. Drs think it is from IBS and gerd, allergies/asthma but offer no solutions. I end up almost eating nothing but soft food, rice veggies. I cant breath or eat. I just cough and have IBS pain and irregular bowels. 2 yrs and so frustrated. No weight loss and always hungry.. any suggestions

See a specialist before it gets worst.

Hi KarenT. You said your Dr thinks it is allergies/asthma could be causing your cough. I have GERD and asthma also.i use two inhalers for my asthma. One is a maintenance inhaler and the other is an emergency inhaler. GERD can trigger an asthma attack. Had your dr prescribed anything for your asthma/allergies? He should because asthma untreated is not good for you.

I have had upper abdominal pain for years. Drs say it's gerd and ibs but it's NOT. If I eat more than four bites of food at once my stomach gets hard, difficult to breathe and heart races for hours. This along with ibs-d. I know how you feel.

That sounds a lot like my diet too.

I have an air purifier to try and help at home with allergies. I also drink a lot of camomile tea with honey to help sooth my throat from sneezing and coughing. I’ve heard using local honey should help your body get used to local plants for allergies. Not sure if it’s true or not or how much it helps though.
When it comes to right side pain and living off of rice and soft foods I understand. When my Ibs is messing with me I eat a lot of chicken and rice soup, drink meal replacement drinks, and eat a lot of tuna and peanutbutter bars. Even then my stomach still bothers me and I just have to work through it. I find all I can do is rest and drink plenty of fluids to stay hydrated.
