Never Normal Bowel Movements
A myIBSteam Member asked a question 💭

I never and I mean never have a normal bm. About 3 times a week, I have what I call episodes. Episodes of pain, many bowel movements and tenesmus. I literally get rid of everything I've eaten in the past few days in an episode that last anywhere from 1 hour to 5. And always in the am. Is there anybody here that does this. My gastroenterologist is trying to help but so far nothing.

Yes! You sound just like me! Nothing seems to help. Gastrointologists have not helped me. I stay home most of the day and cross my fingers gers when I go out. It makes me very tired.

I have done the same I finally found a gastro doctor that did food allergy test and I am allergic to wheat rye and barley sugar irritates it no raw vegetables no fresh fruit couple strawberries or couple blueberries pineapple I can eat a little bit of mainly bananas applesauce no beef no brussel sprouts broccoli cabbage lettuce no dairy no mushrooms I have bouts of it about every two weeks and I have severe amount of adhesions due to abdominal surgeries I'm not allowed to take Imodium or anything like it for fear blockage I've had one blockage. I know how you feel you go out and Hope and pray that you won't have to use the bathroom make my trips short and sweet and done I order my groceries go pick them up my doctors are local except for my gastro doctor which is about 20-25 minutes away then I get nervous and that causes more problems I wish there was an answer I've had it since I was about 14 years old I am now 76 it's very frustrating and depressing hang in there I only drink decaffeinated iced tea water decaffeinated coffee I'm allergic to egg whites so I can't have the scrambled eggs and gluten free is so expensive can't afford that I eat a lot of rice cakes and that's what I have my lunch on slicer two of Turkey half a slice of cheddar cheese I have stopped using mayonnaise for the past 2 weeks I'll start again next week and see if it bothers me I buy vegan butter I follow the FODMAP pretty closely maybe that can help. I hope I haven't rattled on too much but I wish you luck and hopefully by what you're doing of keeping track of everything you eat will help my prayers are with you I want stuffing for Thanksgiving and I got to figure out a way to make it with the gluten-free bread which is $6 a loaf that's not easy either. Have a good holiday and I'll keep you in my prayers God bless 🤗😉

I agree with Christie. Dicyclomine does help. It's also a very good idea to keep a food diary to see if you can figure out what might be affecting you. Most likely it's what you ate the night before or in the morning. Could you be having issues with dairy? Gluten? Sugars? High Fructose Corn Syrup? Preservatives? Has your doc checked you for SIBO? It stands for Small intestinal bacteria overgrowth. I had this. My gastro put me on antibiotics and it helped. Unfortunately you have to be your own doc as well and really research things and keep a food journal then try to eliminate certain foods or drink one by one to see if it helps. But you have to be off that food or drink for at least 2 weeks to see a difference. I've had IBS-D for over 30 years. It hasn't been until the past 4 years that it's got so bad...worsened rapidly. For me, my flares are Dairy, Gluten, Fiber,....etc.... I've eliminated alot from my diet which has helped me a great deal. I hope this helps you in some way.
