After i had my colonoscopy and other tests. The specialist reccomended that i should try peppermint tea to help with my IBS. Today i found some peppermint oil capsules in poundland. Has anyone tried these for IBS? Do they work? What medications should they not be taken with? I read that they are also good for colds so i have taken one as i am just starting to come down with a cold and hoping it will help nip it in the bud.
Hi Kylie , I was prescribed peppermint oil capsules by my doctor and I take one three times a day before meals . I also take a high strength probiotic once a day . I think they do help to calm the stomach although I haven’t heard of them being good for colds . I don’t know of any medication that they should not be taken with . Iv been on them for a few years now and whilst nothing actually cures ibs I think they help to manage it . Good luck , worth a try 🤞😊
Thanks. Probiotics are expensive to buy but i found a list of foods that contain them. So i eat yoghurt every day and going to get some cottage cheese and dark chocolate as these contain probiotics. (Like i need a reason to eat chocolate lol) There is no evidence that peppermint oil helps with a cold but the articles i have read said it is used to help with colds so i thought no harm in trying. I did have a bad tummy last week and i had some peppermint tea which did help me bring up some wind and i did feel a bit better. Do you know if the peppermint oil helps with diarrhoea?
I know they work for some people but they actually made mine worse.
I don't know about the oil, but I have been using IB Gard, which are capsules that contain peppermint granules, which my GI suggested. I don't really notice much of a difference.
